The W114/W115 models were first introduced to the Mercedes Benz range in 1968. They were mid-engined cars, smaller sedans and coupes, and were known as "eights" - "Strich-Acht". However, the designation was not introduced by the manufacturer, but took its name from the brand's fans themselves. The numeral "8" comes from the year of the model's launch.
The w114/W115 models were characterised by a distinctive design, breaking away from the design of luxury limousines with a star. They were very modern vehicles that represented something of a revolution in terms of design solutions. The "/8" limousines allowed Mercedes-Benz to more clearly define the profile of the segment to which they belonged - the future E-Class segment.
