Fintail

Fintail

Skrzydlak, or Fintail or Heckflosse are successors to the Mercedes-Benz "Ponton" models (prod. 1961). In Germany, Wings are called "Heckflosse" which translated means "tail fin", which was a distinctive feature of the body of this car.

The Heskflose model was a benchmark of engineering excellence, a model of safety and a mainstay of success in the 1960s. It was the first car in Daimler-Benz's history to pass the crash tests proposed by Ing. Béla Barényi.

So where did the idea for the fins come from? The modest styling of the rear fin on this series of Wings reflected the trend in the USA. But it was not just an aesthetic asset. The fins gave the vehicle additional directional stability.
