The Mercedes Benz SL is a sports car produced by Mercedes since 1954. The designation SL comes from the German Super-Leicht, which translated means super-light. 

The design of the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL roadster was created by shortening and modifying the floorpan of the four-cylinder "Ponton". The SL model was available as a convertible and a coupe.
